::La Tierra
-an original composition by the Troubadours. The influence of flamenco techniques, such as rasqueado strumming, Arabic scales and improvisation, create an energetic and unique musical statement.
bio:
The Troubadours are Mike Blaszkiewicz (classical guitar), Dave Cocagne (classical guitar), Sean Bondareff (fretless Bass), and Jason Pearce (percussion). The group was founded as a classical guitar duet in 1988 when Mike and Dave met at Wayne State and began performing together. They had early success and won the University’s Concerto Competition, performed in Canada and England before finishing their Masters degrees in classical guitar performance.
As a duo, the Troubadour’s chose to expand their repertoire by adding original compositions and arrangements using elements of flamenco, jazz, world music, traditional folk, and popular music. This fresh approach led to performances at Madonna College’s Michigan Guitar Summit, Cranbrooks’s Kingswood Auditorium, Kerrytown Concerthouse and several appearances for the city of Plymouth.
With a new direction the Troubadours also found a new sound with the addition of Sean Bondareff on bass and Jason Pearce on percussion. Positive feedback from audiences convinced the group they had something new and special. The expanded line up allows the group to exploit ethnic and traditional rhythms, creating a full backdrop for the classical guitars and completing the ensemble’s sound.
